UCW 9: "Total Mayhem" Official Fight Card Announcement

On November 10th, 2012 UnCivil War Mixed Martial Arts will present it's 9th installment of MMA Cage Fighting action. This event boasts one of the largest fight cards ever in the history of MMA in Springfield. Fight Promoter Eric Stevens says "the 'over-sized super-card' is due to an arrangement with local television station KOZL to televise the November 10th event as well as an upcoming multi-episode tournament called 'The Ozarks Ultimate Warrior' which will feature 16 local fighters in the 145 lb weight class battling it out in the cage for a pro fight contract. Two finalists will compete in a live television finale on June 8th featuring local Professional and Amateur Bouts at the O'Reilly Center in Springfield. The over-sized card will ensure there is plenty of great fight footage to assemble one or two "pilot" episodes to promote the release of the television show next year.

Main Event: Cliff 'KO King” Williams VS. Jon “Diesel” Hickman

UCW Veteran MMA Fighter and current Middleweight Champion Cliff Williams will be making his debut in the Welterweight Division for the UCW Welterweight Title. If successful Cliff “KO King” Williams will become the first fighter on the UCW roster to hold Championship Titles in two divisions.

Williams is set to face undefeated Jon “Diesel” Hickman in what looks to be a candidate for the UCW Fight of the Night award. Hickman is returning from a year long hiatus. Prior to his break Hickman was an unstoppable fighter in the Welterweight Division of other fight promotions. Both fighters like to stand up and punch it out so this should be a real treat for UCW 9 attendees.

Grudge Match: “The Prince” Christian Camp VS. Frank “The Saint” Gutierrez

Also on the card is a 'Grudge Match' between the current UCW Lightweight Champion “The Prince” Christian Camp and his long time friend and former training partner Frank “The Saint” Gutierrez. Late this summer the two had a falling out over a female friend and made it public on Facebook. The two decided to solve their differences in the cage.

The Prince is undefeated in the UCW and holds the UCW record for the most consecutive successful title defenses. Both fighters have impressive records and experience. On Saturday November 10th UCW fans will get the chance to see how this plays out.

Co-Main Event: Aaron “The Drill” Loudermill VS. “The Irish Stun Gun” Dyllan Belt.

The UCW has had a difficult time with its Flyweight Division. Fighters in the 125 pound weight range are hard to find and the division doesn't have many newcomers. UCW Veteran Aaron “The Drill” Loudermill has been set on the last two cards to face Isaac “The Badger” in a re-match for the Flyweight Strap. In August the two failed to meet due to both fighters suffering the loss of a parent shortly before the bout.

The two were set to face each other on November 10th at UCW 9 however Isaac is injured an unable to fight on this event. “The Badger” has been replaced with “The Irish Stun Gun” Dyllan Belt. Dyllan will face Loudermill for the UCW Interim Flyweight Belt. The winner will face “The Badger” at UCW 10 to solidify the title.

UCW 9 will also feature a Four-Man Super Heavyweight Championship Tournament. Super Heavyweight (265 pounds or over) fighters Raymond Gonzales, Josh Collins, Clay Jenkins and Randall Hunsaker will build the bracket. The two winners will face each other at UCW 10 for the title of UCW Super Heavyweight Champion.

Event Promoter Eric Stevens says fans can expect a packed night of fights with one of the largest cards in UCW history.

Tickets for this event are on sale now at uncivilwarmma.com!!!
Fans are urged to buy tickets in advance as early as possible. Fans who purchase in advance always get a free upgrade to 'Priority Seating' which offers cushioned chairs and a better view of the fighters walking out to the Cage.

UCW 8: "UNDISPUTED" Main Event Announcement - Camp VS. Smith - 145lb Title Fight

The Main Event for UnCivil War 8 "UNDISPUTED" has been officially announced as of July 31st, 2012. The 8th installment of Mixed Martial Arts (or "Cagefighting" as some call it) provided by the Springfield based UCW on August 25th, 2012 at the Howard Johnson Convention Center will feature two of the top 145 pound amateur MMA fighters in the SouthWest Missouri Region.

"The Prince" Christian Camp will defend his UCW LightWeight Championship Title Belt for a second time against the up and coming undefeated Sam "The Assassin" Smith.

Camp first earned the title at UnCivil War 4 earlier this year on February 25th. Camp's fight against the more seasoned and experienced Hembree was a battle of will's to win. Camp emerged victorious with a submission finish late in the fight via rear naked choke.

To date Camp has only two losses on his record. One of those losses came early in the first round of a bout against Ty Curbow. Camp received a cut over his eye that caused the doctor to stop the fight. Camp wanted the fight to continue and had the fight been a professional bout the fight would likely have continued resulting in a win according to  Camp.

The other blemish on Camp's otherwise pristine record was a loss to one of the top ranked Welterweight fighters in the state, Jeff Escobar, also earlier this year in February.
Camp fought Escobar all the way to a decision in a 5 round war. Ultimately the judges decided in Escobar's favor.

To date, Camp has never been knocked out. He has never been submitted. He has never been finished. Sam "The Assassin" Smith who is undefeated in both Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts says that he has known Camp for years and knows that he can put a stop to Camp's rise to the top.

Smith has come up fast and hard in the UCW making his Amateur MMA Debut in March of this year. In less than six months Sam has secured four victories in the cage and one in the boxing ring. Smith utilizes a street and boxing hybrid fighting style that is hard to predict. Smith predicts that he will be able to take Camp out early in the fight.

There is a lot riding on this fight. Both of these fighters have plans to make the crossover to professional fighting in the near future. One of these fighters will be one step closer to realizing that goal while the other may have to take a step back and work a little harder for the opportunity to become a professional fighter.

Fans wishing to watch this fight are urged to buy tickets online in advance. The best seating, called "priority seating", is always provided to advance ticket buyers for the same price as general admission. The "priority seating" offers a better vantage point of the fighters walking out as well as a great view of the projection screen and cage. "Priority Seating" is first come, first serve. You can purchase ticket securely online at http://www.uncivil-war.com

UCW 8: "UNDISPUTED" will also feature two additional Title Fights with two Interim Champions looking to become the "UNDISPUTED" Champions in their respective weight classes. Fans can also expect an additional 9 fights for a total of 12 bouts all together featuring some of the regions top Mixed Martial Talent.

All necessary details for the event are available on the UnCivil War™ Website at http://www.uncivil-war.com

What Really Happened Between Kimbo Slice and Brian Green

First off let me say that I am the KING armchair quarterback. I have been watching fighting since it was on TV in Black and White. I am a true student of the fight game that was ringside for the Slice vs. Green fight that took place on March 24th, 2012. I saw every second of the fight from one of the best vantage points in the venue with multiple camera angles at my disposal.
The subject of heated is discussion is whether or not Brian Green 'took a dive' or 'threw the fight' or lost on purpose for money. All I can say is that I was right there witnessing history in the making. An eye witness to the unexpected that was 3.4 seconds away from happening. Brian Green was beating Kimbo Slice. Fair and square, no questions asked. Brian Green was faster, threw more punches, landed more punches, had better defense, weaved better, bobbed better and was the overall better boxer that night. As chance would have it, Kimbo Slice pulled off a knockout in the last few seconds of the fight that saved his butt from an embarrassing decision loss to an 0-0 last minute opponent, MMA fighter turned last minute pro boxer Brian Green.
If you know anything about the fight game you know that fighters are sometimes paid to lose. It's the ugly truth in the sport of boxing especially. Like any other business arrangement however, it has to make sense. So, let's analyze why Brian Green taking a dive didn't make sense.
First of all no one would have considered it necessary to pay Brian Green to take a dive. No one thought he would win any way. Brian Green was around 50lbs. lighter than Kimbo Slice and had no prior boxing experience. Those of us in the fight game just assumed Brian Green was going to come in and get knocked out by Kimbo Slice just so he could wear a T-Shirt that says "I Fought Kimbo".
In the locker room before the fight Brain said to me "I've got nothing to lose". I thought "yes, you do. Your head and your career." None of us expected Brian Green to throw Kimbo Slice a beating for 98% of the fight which brings to light the second issue.
Brian Green was putting way too much heat on Kimbo for a guy 'taking a dive'. I was right there. I saw and heard every single punch. Brian Green's punches were landing on target with force. He was trying to get famous at Kimbo's expense, something we all began to believe was going to happen by the third round.
All four rounds of the fight were everything that makes the fight game so amazing. The underdog coming out with heat seeking missile type punches, the crowd off there seats, everyone chanting "GREEN, GREEN, GREEN" cheering for the underdog, the David that faced Goliath. The fight was four rounds of everything that is pure and good about fighting. You NEVER know what can happen.
So let's consider that Kimbo did take a beating for four rounds of a four round fight and let Brian Green humiliate him in front of everyone present. That still leaves the one thing no one has really considered. If Brian Green did take a dive that means that the referee, Kimbo Slice and Brian Green all managed to time it right down to the last 3 seconds of the final round? Impossible. Imagine if they had been off by just a couple seconds? It wouldn't be hard to make a little mistake like that when you just fought a four round fight and both fighters were clearly tired. Do you really think Kimbo Slice would let someone toy with his career down to a three second window?
Lastly we need to consider the financial aspect of this issue. This fight happened on a small pro show in Springfield, Missouri. It wasn't televised. There was no pay-per-view. The kind of money it would take to set up a 'dive' of this magnitude simply wouldn't exist with a small budget show. Lets assume they could afford $10,000 to pay Brian Green to 'take a dive'. Do all the non-fighter people in the world not understand how much more money would have been there for Brian Green to win the fight?
Brian Green has a professional MMA record of 27 wins with 17 losses and is only 26 years old. A win over Kimbo Slice would have guaranteed him some great opportunities with much bigger paydays and sponsorship dollars than a measly $10,000.
Rest assured, Brian Green fought Kimbo Slice and was beating him and beating him in fine fashion. With less than four seconds left in the fight Kimbo Slice caught Brian Green with a text book boxing three punch combination that ultimately cost Brian the opportunity of a lifetime. Had I been Brian Green's corner-man between the third and fourth round I would have said "You did your job, you won the crowd, they all love you now. You beat this man for the last three rounds. The decision is yours. Now stop showing off, tighten up your defense and let's win this fight."
As fate would have it with only 3.4 seconds left in the fight Brian Green's legs folded in a way that can't be faked. He hit the canvas and was out cold. Kimbo Slice was victorious with a literally last second knockout. Perhaps that's what makes guys like Kimbo Slice a 'sensation'. Perhaps guys like Kimbo weren't meant to be beat by a simple young kid from the midwest.
Either way, I was there. I saw it. It was amazing. It was real. The fight gave new breath to my own personal love for the sport. To the fans I say be careful who you listen to. There a lot of people talking that weren't there and didn't even watch the fight on video saying things they shouldn't be saying.
Brian Green doesn't deserve to have his reputation tarnished or his efforts in the ring downplayed. Brian Green stood toe to toe with a dangerous fighter that drastically outweighed him and delivered a hair raising beat down for nearly the entire fight. Give the fighter his due. Good job Brian Green.

Top MMA Professional Prospects face-off this weekend at UnCivil War IV in three highly anticipated Title Fights

Some of the top amateur fighters from the Southwest Missouri Region will be competing this weekend right here in Springfield, Missouri. These fighters are the top prospects to become Professional Fighters that will fight in organizations like the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) later in their career. Shows like this weekends' UnCivil War being held at the Howard Johnson Hotel & Conference Center are your chance to see these fighters battling it out in the cage up close and personal less than 80' away from anywhere in the venue.

The event hosted by UnCivil War MMA titled "UnCivil War IV: Rising" will feature 12 fights with the area's 'Rising' star MMA Fighters. The fighters will compete in 'No-Holds Barred' Mixed Martial Arts fighting where they can defeat their opponent with punches, kicks, knees, chokes and joint locks. There are a few rules according to fight promoter Eric Stevens. "Fighters aren't allowed to knee their opponent to the head or strike to the groin or spine. They aren't allowed to poke each other in the eyes or any orifice for that matter!" says Stevens.

According to Stevens what makes this event so exciting is that it features competitors that will soon become pro fighters. "One day in the not too distant future you will see these same fighters on bigger promotions and television as well. It's really awesome to see a fighter on TV that you used to watch at smaller shows and hang out with at the after party".

One example is Ozark High School Graduate and Wrestler Devian Golden. Devian Golden recently made his professional debut fight at the O'Reilly Family Event Center. Devian won a decisive one-minute and fourteen-second victory over Pro MMA Fighter Luke Shepard. Devian is expected to try out for the next Ultimate Fighter season featuring the Welterweight Division. Before his professional carreer began Devian 'Superman' Golden was a headliner and Champion at UnCivil War. "Shows like UnCivil War offer you the chance to see these fighters compete up close and personal before they become rockstars and you have to watch them on TV or from hundreds of feet away in a huge arena", says Stevens.

Title Fights

This weekend's event will feature three championship title fights in the Flyweight (125 lbs.) Division, Featherweight (145 lbs.) Division and Lightweight (155 lbs.) Division.

The UCW Flyweight Title fight features a re-match between Ray Allard of Cantrell's MMA and Anthony Lupica of the Barry County Fight Club. These two last fought each other in October in Branson, Missouri. The fight ended in controversy when Lupica was knocked unconcious and Allard struck Lupica on the ground knocking out his front teeth. Both od these fighters are top ranked Flyweights in the region and this re-match will be a war.

The UCW Featherweight Title fight features the current UCW Featherweight Champion Shane Beck of Barry County Fight Club defending his title against Springfield Fight Club's Chris Reed. If Shane Beck successfully defends his title he will become the undisputed UCW Featherweight Champion. Beck faces a tough opponent in Chris Reed. Chris Reed has 5 cage victories including a victory at the inaugural UnCivil War.

The UCW Lightweight Title fight features a match-up that Springfield area MMA fans have been wanting to see for quite some time. Christian 'The Prince' Camp of Cozzens Jiu-Jitsu has been making a stir with impressive victories over 4 tough opponents. Camp has never been submitted, he has never been knocked out in fact no one has ever finished him. His record has two losses. One loss coming from a cut over his eye that Camp was glad to continue fighting with however the doctor refused to let Camp continue. The other loss was a 5 round title fight that went to the decision with Jeff Escobar, one of the top ranked amateur MMA fighters in the state. Camp will face Springfield Fight Club's Shawn Hembree. Hembree is the more seasoned fighter and boasts more cage victories than Camp.

In addition to these amazing title fights there will be 9 other fights featuring some of the area's top MMA talent. Be sure to be there. for more details go to UnCivil-War.com. Tickets are available online and at the door. Promoter Stevens says "All of the VIP Seating including the VIP Tables have been sold out but there is still plenty of General Admission seating available."

UnCivil War™ - Important Updates for Fighters & Fans

As we approach our one year anniversary we would like to extend a deep sense of appreciation to all of the fighters that have made this event such a huge success. So far UnCivil War™ MMA has received support from nearly all of the local MMA gyms as well as a multitude of independent fighters. We have seen Springfield Fight Club, Team Fusion, Hybrid MMA, Cozzens Jiu-Jitsu and many others from the Springfield Area at our events and we appreciate their support.

TICKETS AVAILABLE ONLINE NOW AT UNCIVIL-WAR.COM
It is the goal of this fight promotion to provide access to ALL fighters regardless of their affiliation. We also seek to provide fair match-ups for all fighters. While other promoters hand select who may or may not compete at their events UnCivil War™ is open to everyone.

In 2011 we held 3 events. One on May 21st, then July 9th. We took a short break while we negotiated some obstacles with the management at our venue. During the months to follow, our venue, then the Clarion Hotel, changed ownership and branding. Under new management UCW™ was able to strike a new deal that included one more show for 2011 on December 10th, and 7 more dates for 2012.

In the beginning our promotion met with opposition. Our first event was originally scheduled to be held at Cartoon's, a local bar and restaurant. We were 'backdoored' by another promoter and had to find a new venue in which to hold our event. On May 21st we held the first UnCivil War™. Despite another promoter holding another MMA event less than 2 miles away on the same night, our first event was a huge success.

Since the beginning  UnCivil War™ has continued to gain momentum with the fight card getting larger with each event. We attribute this growth to our fairness and overall respect for fighters. With UnCivil War™ 4 just around the corner and the momentum continuing to build we have made some changes for our next event.

What's new for UnCivil War™ in 2012:

Due to the growth of the event we will no longer be holding the event in the Atrium at the Convention Center. We will now be using the larger area of the four ballrooms adjacent to the Atrium. The new layout will create a better seating environment including VIP Tables and an elevated walkout platform for the fighters as they make there way from the stage down to the cage.

Part of being a fight promoter is learning what does and what does not work at other fight promotions. At UnCivil War™ we have always tried to keep the fight card a reasonable length so as to keep the fans excited throughout the event. Fight cards with too many fights can sometimes result in fans getting bored or disinterested towards the end of the fight card when the main events are scheduled. A good fight card features enough fights to ensure the fans get what they are paying for but not so many that they lose interest.

We don't want to turn young upcoming fighters away so we came up with a solution that should meet everyone's needs:

Preliminary Fights ('Prelims')

In order to provide an opportunity for new fighters to compete and build a winning record that will get them on to the main fight card we will now be offering 'Preliminary Fights' or "Prelims'. The prelims will start two hours before the main card and will feature the newer competitors to UCW™. As a fan you will have access to the prelims at no extra charge.

If you love MMA and can sit through 20 or more fights you should attend the prelims. If you just want to see our regular fighters and title fights you can just come for the main card which will feature 12 of the total 20 to 24 fights that will be fought between the prelims and the main card. Prelims for UCW 4™ are set to begin at 5:30. The main card begins at 7:30.

UCW™ 4 Title Fights

UnCivil War™ 4 is set to have THREE very exciting and highly anticipated Title Fights.

UCW™ Flyweight Championship Bout: Ray Allard VS. Anthony Lupica - VENDETTA RE-MATCH

Ray and Anthony recently faced each other at another local event. The fight ended quickly resulting in a TKO and a few missing teeth for Anthony Lupica. According to Anthony it was a fluke and won't happen again. Anthony intends to prove once and for all that he is the top 125 pound fighter in the region. Both of these fighters are accomplished Mixed Martial Artists. We look forward to seeing this re-match.

UCW™ Lightweight Championship Bout: Christian Camp VS. Shawn Hembree - GRAPPLER BATTLE

Shawn and Christian are both on the top ten list on the local grappling scene. Both fighters are well trained Jiu-Jitsu fighters. However, both fighters train with accomplished boxing coaches as well. This promises to be an exciting fight as no one really knows what's going to happen. Will both of these fighters try to take it to the ground or will one of them try to trick the other by standing up and letting the fists fly? Even better, maybe they will both elect to stand up and showcase their striking skills and put themselves on the top ten list of local strikers!

UCW™ Featherweight Championship Bout: Shane Beck VS. Chris Reed - UNDISPUTED

Reigning UCW™ Featherweight Champion Shane Beck returns to the cage to defend his belt against Chris Reed. Shane Beck is undefeated as a Mixed Martial Artist winning his current title over the formerly undefeated Dewey Cloud. Chris Reed made his first appearance at UCW™ 1 scoring a victory over his opponent Matt Bremerkamp.

If Shane Beck wins this first title defense he will be the UNDISPUTED UCW™ Featherweight Champion.

New Seating Plan

The move from the Atrium into the larger adjacent 'Ballrooms' at the Howard Johnson Convention Center affords room for a new VIP Table section. VIP Tables seat 8 people at a cost of $300. The VIP Table section provides an unobstructed view of the cage with no seating arranged between the tables and the cage.

The new seating plan has also created room for a 'Walkout Platform' for the fighters as they make there way to the cage. Priority Seating is available to those who purchase tickets online at uncivil-war.com. Priority seating as well as the VIP Tables are located on the side of the cage with the Walkout Platform. There is a seating chart below and on the website to help you select your seating.
